Theatre play. Pièce de théâtre.

            

Our theatre group performed for the first time ever last Monday and as one of the organisers said, it must have been the first ever play in Lingala (Congo's native language) by probably the first and only Congolese theatre group to be played in this country!! Something we're very proud of!

After weeks and weeks of sharing about 30 stories, the group told us 2 of them:

"The 1^st performance was based on a story (fiction) told by Monique. It is about a man does not like talking to people in his village but he only enjoying going to the forest to spend time with the wild animals. He also does not like seeing his wife talking to anyone else outside their household. Every time he went to be with those animals in the forest, he use to bring them foods as he considered them as his friends. On the side of the animals, they did not see him as their friend but someone who brings them food. One day, the guy went to those animals but did not have enough for all of them to share. Then the animals were not able to share that food among them so they can all be satisfied, they all beat him up and chased him away. Back in the village, the man told his wife what happened to him and decided to start spending time with people in his village than animals in the forest."

"The 2^nd performance was based on a story told by Mayele. It tells the story of a chicken and a bat. They were friends and always together looking food for their families. One day, the bat decided to kill the chicken by beheading him. This incident took place after the bat, out of greed, wanted to get more than his friend. After crying, the chicks decided to revenge the death of their parent by planning a dance session in from of the bat and his family. They did so by covering their head to give the bat the impression than to enjoy this dance one does not need to have a head. They managed to fool bat as he decided to ask his children to behead him. Just when they did it, then they realized than they killed their own parent. And the chicks runaway jubilant but bat children stayed crying the death of the parent."

Notre troupe de théâtre a donné sa toute 1e représentation lundi dernier et comme un des organisateurs l'a dit, cela devait être la toute 1e pièce en lingala à être jouée par la 1e et seule troupe de théâtre congolaise dans ce pays!! Et nous en sommes très fiers!!

Après plusieurs semaines à partager une trentaine d'histoire, le groupe en a choisi 2 à nous raconter:

"La 1e pièce est basée sur une histoire fictive racontée par Monique. C'est l'histoire d'un homme qui n'aime pas parler aux gens de son village et préfère passer son temps avec les animaux sauvages dans la forêt. Il n'aime pas non plus que sa femme parle à d'autres personnes que lui. Chaque fois qu'il va rendre visite aux animaux dans la forêt, il leur amène à manger car il les considère amis. Les animaux de leur côté ne le voient pas comme un ami mais comme quelqu'un qui les nourrit. Un jour l'homme n'a pas assez de nourriture pour tous les animaux alors ceux-ci le battent et le chassent. De retour au village l'homme raconte à sa femme ce qui lui est arrivé, puis il décide de passer du temps avec les habitants de son village plutôt que les animaux de la forêt."

"La 2e pièce est basée sur une histoire racontée par Mayele. C'est l'histoire d'une poule et d'une chauve-souris qui sont amies et ont l'habitude de chercher ensemble de la nourriture pour leurs familles. Un jour, par avidité, la chauve-souris veut plus de nourriture que la poule et et décapite alors son amie. Les poussins pleurent la mort de leur mère puis décident de se venger en allant danser près de la chauve-souris et de sa famille. Ils dansent en se couvrant la tête pour faire croire à la chauve-souris qu'il n'y a pas besoin d'avoir de tête pour danser et s'amuser. La chauve-souris se fait avoir et demande à ses enfants de la décapiter. A peine le font-ils qu'ils réalisent qu'ils viennent de tuer leur mère. Pendant que les poussins s'en vont en jubilant les enfants chauve-souris pleurent la mort de leur mère."
